Abstract
In the UCR reporting procedure, police, sheriffs, and State police report monthly on the number of known offenses involving murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, manslaughter by negligence, forcible rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. These crimes make up the Part I offenses in the UCR program. The Part II offenses, for which only data on persons arrested and charged are collected, encompass all other crimes. Arrests are reported monthly for both Part I and Part II offenses by crime category and include the age, sex, and race of each person arrested. The data for 1966-76 are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. Appendixes contain forms used in UCR reporting.
