This codebook explains the content and coding used in the data file resulting from research on the growth of crime and government responses to it between 1948 and 1978 in 10 cities.
Abstract
The cities include Atlanta; Boston; Houston; Indianapolis; Minneapolis; Newark; Philadelphia; Phoenix; and San Jose and Oakland, Calif. The five data files include baseline information on all cities with 50,000 or more population, a file on the criminal justice activities and resources in the cities, city ordinances and State laws, and the news media coverage of crime and criminal justice issues.
