Abstract
There was a 100-percent response rate. The census surveyed the number and kinds of juvenile detention facilities with a resident population of at least 50-percent juveniles. There were 347 detention centers; 23 shelters; 17 reception or diagnostic centers; 189 training schools; 103 ranches, forestry camps, and farms; and 195 halfway houses and group homes. Included in the survey are the total number of juveniles held as of June 30, 1975, as well as the breakdown of the number in each type of facility. Also presented are numbers and breakdown (by sex) of detention and status offenses for juveniles; numbers of full-time and part-time staff as well as payroll and nonpayroll staff; and capital, total operating, and per capita expenditures.
