This codebook presents the questionnaire, variables, and coding information for the data set resulting from a survey of probation and parole agency heads conducted in 1974 through 1976 as part of the National Manpower Survey.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data standards as well as codebook information. The overall study, which included 11 separate surveys, assessed the adequacy of current criminal justice and law enforcement training programs, projected future training needs, and established need priorities for future training and assistance programs to be funded by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. The survey was sent to the heads of all probation and parole agencies listed in the Directory of Criminal Justice Agencies published by the Bureau of the Census. The file includes 2,011 cases, which is 67.4 percent of the census. The codebook describes the variables and the data format. The appendix presents the code values for the 'major obstacle' survey question and the list of code values for the States.
