This codebook presents the variables and coding information for the data set which gives the names, addresses, agency types, types of cases prosecuted, agency staff size, number of attorneys, and funding sources for more than 8,000 State and local prosecution and civil attorney agencies listed in the National Justice Agency List.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, data standards, and codebook information. The agencies surveyed are engaged in the prosecution of alleged criminal offenders and/or in providing civil legal services to the government. Strictly private law firms that perform legal services periodically for a government are excluded. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. An appendix, which explains the classification of governmental units, and a glossary are included.
