Research delineates various levels of sex ring crimes against children in which child pornography may or may not have been part of the child molester's operational technique. Discussion focuses on six areas: growth of awareness of the problem; the extent of the problem; the typology of child sex rings; the collector of child pornography; the effects on child victims and their families; and the relationship of child sexual victimization to other forms of sexual abuse, specifically juvenile prostitution. Institutional responses to child sexual victimization are described, including the role of community mental health centers, techniques for helping victims as they contact the criminal justice system, successful interventions, and regionally coordinated programs dealing with child pornography and juvenile prostitution. Appendixes describe legal resources on sexual exploitation of children and review court cases. An index, list of contributors, and a note about the editor are provided.
