Following opening statements of the committee members, Judge Irving Kaufman, Commission Chairman, reviewed the Commission's activities since its establishment in July 1983. Committee members questioned Judge Kaufman and his associates about complaints from Commission members that staff did not consult them, current restrictions on closed hearings, relations between the Commission and the Department of Justice, how to prevent information leaks, and liability issues.
