Patrol officers in smaller jurisdictions differed markedly from those in major urban areas in terms of race and sex. For example, two-thirds of 170 female patrol officers surveyed were from large urban areas, as were 70 percent of black officers. Statistical data on educational level, prior experience, and on administrative, patrol, and investigative tasks are also provided. Additionally, the performance frequency for seven selected physical activities is noted. Forty-nine tables are included.
