This report analyzes the responses of more than 200 officers from Ohio's 10 largest sheriffs' departments to a survey conducted in 1981-1982.
Abstract
Deputies in large counties differed slightly in race and sex from patrol officers across the State: deputies were more likely to be white (93 percent as opposed to 89 percent) and male (99 percent as opposed to 93 percent). Further, 68 percent of the deputies were under the age of 35, compared to 82 percent of the officers throughout the State. Statistical data on education, prior experience, and on administrative, patrol, and investigative tasks are supplied. Also, the performance frequency for seven selected physical activities is indicated. Fifty-one tables are included.
