This report analyzes the responses of 130 officers from 13 sheriffs' departments in Ohio to a survey conducted in 1981-1982.
Abstract
Deputies in medium-sized counties differed slightly from patrol officers throughout the State: they were more likely to be white (94 percent as opposed to 89 percent) and male (97 percent as opposed to 93 percent). Further, 72 percent of the deputies were under age 35, as compared to 96 percent of the officers throughout the State. Statistical data on education, prior experience, and on administrative, patrol, and investigative tasks are also provided. Additionally, performance frequency for seven selected physical activities is indicated. Fifty-one tables are included.
