In 1982, 346 requests were received, up from 308 in 1981. Colleges and universities accounted for 19 percent of the requests, the news media for 5 percent, public agencies for 40 percent, businesses for 4 percent, the DCJS for 12 percent, State-elected officials for 3 percent, private nonprofit groups for 5 percent, private citizens for 2 percent, and out-of-State requests for 10 percent. Finally, the following types of research were requested: miscellaneous, 29 percent; background information, 16 percent; law enforcement, 27 percent; juvenile justice, 3 percent; general reference, 4 percent; employment and expenditures, 2 percent; public attitudes, 8 percent; crime and victimization, 7 percent; courts, 3 percent; and corrections, 6 percent.
