The units and subunits of the highway patrol organization are listed. Entry requirements for highway patrol recruits are explained, and the goals of the training in 56 subjects are summarized. The use of pace checking and aircraft to enforce the States speed limit are described, as is a 2-year experimental program using special teams and distinctly marked cars. A public information campaign designed to make motorists aware of the drunk driving problem is described, and its impacts on the target populations are explained. The role of the broadcast media, especially television, in educating the public is highlighted. A series of selective enforcement campaigns during the December holiday period are described, with emphasis on the procedures used when with emphasis on the procedures used when a motorist is stopped by a patrol officer: State regulations regarding speed, hand signals, school buses, passing on the right, and other subjects are also listed.
