Several perplexing and controversial ethical issues confront professionals in the field of dispute resolution. Recognizing the need to address these contemporary problems, the Ethics Committee of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR) has been considering several issues in depth over the past year.
Abstract
This article discusses the topics under consideration by the Ethics Committee: neutral confidentiality, certification and training of neutrals, one-sided compensation, and the extent of a neutral's responsibility to the public at large. Initially, an overview of the resolutions reached by the Ethics Committee is presented. Discussion is then focused on the ethical nature of the problems posed by these issues, and suggested proposals for resoving such issues are examined. (Publisher abstract)
