This manual presents the instrument, variables, coding information, and results of studies which produced a combined data set presenting information on citizens' perceptions, experiences, and reactions to crime in Atlanta and Chicago in 1979 and 1980.
Abstract
The Atlanta data came from 523 residents interviewed in 6 selected neighborhoods in Atlanta, Ga. The Chicago data came from 3,310 residents in 8 selected neighborhoods. Residents answered questions on their views of neighborhood cohesiveness, the nature of the crime problem, the actions they had taken, and their contacts with police or other city officials regarding neighborhood problems. The method by which the combined data set was produced, the specifications of the data tape, and a complete codebook are included.
