Abstract
Information assists child victims of incest or sexual molestation to recognize the inappropriate behavior of the offender and guides them in reporting inappropriate touching to a reliable authority figure. Instruction also focuses on how to respond assertively; assertiveness is differentiated from aggressiveness and from nonassertive behavior. Self-protective techniques for walking through public areas are described, and the importance of becoming acquainted with new persons in a safe and careful manner is emphasized. Safety practices within the home, such as locking doors and windows and using a chain lock or 'peephole' are explored, and ways to avoid sexual exploitation by various authority figures are delineated. That students never owe anyone sexual contact in exchange for favors or gifts is emphasized, and suggestions for withholding personal information from strangers are provided. Finally, procedures for dealing with obscene telephone calls and with indecent exposure are highlighted. A slide series script, audio tape script, and narrative are included, as is a list of approximately 50 film, book, and pamphlet resources. Additionally, resource programs are listed, and evaluation role plays are provided.
