The prevalence of threats against public figures is dramatized with film clips of scenes and interviews associated with attempted and accomplished assassinations of well-known political figures. This is followed by the dramatization of a telephoned death threat against a public official. Team protection techniques are portrayed as the principal leaves his house, travels by car on city streets, walks from the car into a public building, enters and leaves an elevator, walks for an extended distance on a public street, enters an outdoor political gathering by car, shakes hands in a crowd, is threatened by a person with a pistol, and enters his vehicle in a crowded area. Principles for protecting the principal while traveling in a vehicle cover the location of the follow-car with respect to the principal's vehicle while moving straight ahead, making a turn, changing lanes, and stopping for a red light. The positioning of each member of the security team in the cars is also discussed, as are their observation responsibilities. The placement and observation tactics of the team are considered for each of the pedestrian situations. Also dramatized are the actions to be taken by security team members when the principal is threatened by a person with a pistol held at close range. Protection principles applicable to the management of the particular situations portrayed are presented as well.
