This manual presents the variables and coding information for the data set resulting from a study of 354 male narcotic users arrested or identified by the Baltimore Police Department between 1952 and 1976.
Abstract
The sample was stratified based on race and year of police contact. Study variables included the subjects' use of marijuana, hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbituates, codeine, heroin, methadone, cocaine, tranquilizers, and other narcotics. Other variables were past arrests, length of incarceration, education attainment, employment history, personal income, mobility, and drug treatment received. Each of the 4 files in the data set contains 5,438 card-image records.
