Founded in 1902, PAD now has chapters at 164 law schools, mostly in the United States. Following the 1976 report of the Task Force on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, a fraternity representative proposed that the fraternity aid the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in achieving its main goals. In February 1979, OJJDP approved a grant for PAD services in a new national program of law-related education. The program had four phases: awareness, adoption, implementation, and institutionalization. The classroom program developed is for grade levels from kindergarten to 12th grade in public, parochial, and private schools. The PAD Partnership Program was established to train both lawyers and educators. Efforts have also been made to secure the support of national organizations. Publications to support the program have also been developed. An evaluation of the law-related education program has concluded that it can significantly reduce delinquency when it is properly implemented and taught according to prescribed principles. Planned future activities and comments about the PAD efforts are included.
