CPTED focuses on structuring safety plans for a variety of communities ranging from single family housing to commercial and industrial areas. Spatial design of site developments is explored to enhance public safety. Street widths and the associated parking and traffic difficulties are mentioned, as is the need for clear line of view at intersections, especially those which are uncontrolled. Topics dealing with single family residential developments include the advantages of clustering of homes and street design to give a 'feeling of community,' parks and landscaping, and more than one entrance for the larger developments. Special requirements for the safety of senior citizens are explored. Attention is given to commerical and industrial complexes focusing on traffic patterns, parking, shipping and receiving areas, and landscaping and lighting. Field projects to study factors contributing to environmental crime prevention are included in the workshop sessions.
