Abstract
Trend indicators through 1984 are summarized for the availability and sources of heroin, cocaine, chemical drugs, and cannabis. This is followed with detailed information and statistics for each of these drug classifications. For each drug classification, information covers abuse and availability trends, developments in source countries, and international/national trafficking patterns. Tabular data pertaining to the use and availability of each drug type are provided for (1) the number of drug charges lodged in Canada for each type of drug offense in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981; (2) the amount (in kilograms) of the drug seized in Canada for each of the preceding years; (3) the amount of the drug required by the user population in Canada for 1981; and (4) other data pertinent to the abuse and availability of each drug. Discussions of developments in source countries analyze trends in each source region and country. Chapters discuss the drug money flow in Canada and major Canadian-related drug seizures in 1981. An executive summary and the report in French are also provided.
