The program's goals is to accomplish an immediate cessation of violence by making clients aware of their involvement in violence and by improving their self-control and problemsolving abilities. The program has been conducted in small homogeneous groups, and consists of ten 2-hour sessions. Sessions cover self-understanding and behavioral contracting; understanding violence; emotional arousal and anger control; stress inoculation and additional anger-control techniques; the relationship between stress and violence; communication principles; sources of and approaches to family conflict; jealousy, sex-role stereotyping, and marital dependency; and isolation and social support. Chapters in the book correspond to each session. These contain introductory materials, references, demonstrations and exercises for in-session use, and worksheets, handouts, and forms for use with clients. Session outlines are provided to highlight the presentation sequence. Included are 117 references.
