This report presents tabular data and narrative discussions on homicides against children and the elderly in California for 1970-83.
Abstract
Narrative sections of the report discuss (1) California trends in homicides among children (under 15 years old) and the elderly (65 years old and older), (2) homicide rates for these groups in California compared to the United States in general, (3) homicide trends by race, (4) homicides by assault type, (5) infant homicides, and (6) geographic clusters. Seventeen tables present the data; one appendix compares the number of homicides reported on death certificates to the number contained in police statistics. Another appendix describes aspects of study methodology and provides additional tabular data. Highlights of study findings are provided.
