The first two chapters review the development of fourth amendment principles and the coverage of the fourth amendment. The exclusionary rule and probable cause are then addressed, followed by discussions of the formal requirements for issuing a warrant and the execution of the warrant. Separate chapters cover challenging a search conducted pursuant to a warrant and government conduct not covered by the fourth amendment. Chapters are also devoted to specific types of searches: consent searches, vehicle searches, searches incident to arrest, stop and frisk, administrative searches, border searches, body searches, supervisory searches by government personnel, and searches for the protection of public areas. Other chapters focus on exigent circumstances, searches and seizures with first amendment implications, motion to suppress, habeas corpus, and civil liability for illegal searches and seizures.
