This audiocassette training program of self-paced instruction for the lay or skilled crisis intervenor considers aggression, lethality and safety, assessment and brief counseling, defusing aggressive behavior, the mediation process, and the referral process.
Abstract
The section on aggression discusses theories of aggression and its multiple causative factors. The focus on lethality and safety covers criteria for judging lethal potential as well as procedures for intervenor safety. Techniques for assessing crisis behavior and methods of brief counseling are also described. Instruction on defusing aggressive behavior identifies problems of aggressive and violent behavior and suggests ways to reduce aggressive potential. Consideration of the mediation process encompasses the purpose of mediation and intervenor mediation techniques and problems. The concluding section on the referral process analyzes behavior problems requiring referral, specifies criteria for referrals, and describes referral techniques. A dramatization and analysis at the conclusion of each major section of instruction demonstrates the principles taught. An accompanying booklet explains how to use the tapes and provides an extensive selected bibliography of works published between 1974 and 1984.
