This codebook for a 1983 survey of criminal justice professionals regarding their highest priority needs contains a brief description of the study, the six questionnaires used, and other study material.
Abstract
The study description indicates that a questionnaire was mailed to each of the following six professional groups: judges and trial court administrators, corrections officials, public defenders, police, prosecutors, and probation/parole officials. It also reports that selected respondents were contacted by telephone to clarify their expressed problems and needs. In addition to presenting the questionnaire and cover letter sent to each of the six groups, the codebook contains a copy of the telephone interview guide. Other materials in the codebook are (1) a table showing the types of respondents receiving each questionnaire, their ID numbers, and whether they represent a sample or a census; (2) an alphabetical list of States and State abbreviations; and (3) the code numbers and descriptions for the 'most pressing problems' identified by the respondents.
