This manual presents data collection and information processing descriptions, a variable description list, and the codebook for data on assault victim experiences drawn from the longitudinal files (1976-82) of the National Crime Survey.
Abstract
The introduction provides a data collection description, sampling information, data collection procedures, codebook information, processing information, and a list of related publications. Only data on incidents of rape, robbery, and assault are documented in the codebook. The codebook indicates (1) variable and reference numbers, (2) the abbreviated variable label used within OSIRIS to identify each variable, (3) the designation of missing data, and (4) the sequential location and width of a variable when the data are stored on magnetic tape. It also provides the full text of the survey question that yielded the data for each variable. Code values for each variable and code meanings are provided as well. The manual contains a glossary, industry and occupation codes, the questionnaire, and frequencies and univariate statistics.
