Abstract
Data for New York City cover all felony offenses according to sex, race, and age, as well as personal, property, drug, and 'other' offenses. Classes A,B,C,D, and E arrest offenses are also addressed in New York City data. The data are presented for New York State metropolitan planning areas and nonmetropolitan areas. Characteristics of the arrest event are presented for New York City, other metropolitan areas, and nonmetropolitan areas. These data encompass the type and seriousness of the most serious charge, the number of crimes charged in the arrest event, and whether the most serious arrest charge was for an attempted or a completed crime. Data breakdowns by the three regional types are also provided for offender characteristics: sex, age, race, and prior criminal histories in addition to selected offender characteristics by the type and class of the arrest offense. Twenty-one figures and 26 tables are provided. For related volumes, see NCJ 98805 and 98807.
