Processing of New York State felony arrests are shown using 'tree' diagrams which portray data on case outcomes and processing times. The data is presented statewide and shown specifically for New York City, other metropolitan areas, and nonmetropolitan areas. Additional displays show the statewide case processing by offender sex, race, age, crime type, and crime class. Figures present summary counts and percentages of cases by dispositional outcome in addition to the median elapsed time between arrest and disposition. The arrest event is the unit of count for all data. Characteristics of the arrest event inputs are delineated: year of arrest, type and seriousness of the most serious charge, number of crimes charged in the arrest event, and whether the most serious arrest charge was for an attempted or a completed crime. Offender characteristics are analyzed across the three regions of the State. Sex, age, race, and prior criminal histories of offenders and differences by region are shown followed by a brief examination of selected offender characteristics by the type and class of the arrest offense.
