This research study covered 5576 households which are a representative sample of the population in Israel and focused on offenses against property, housebreaking and burglary, or attempt to do so.
Abstract
Of the households covered 6.1% fell victim to this offense. We concentrated on households that had been victims of the above offense but had not complained to the police. It was found that in approximately half of these cases (47.2%) no complaint was made because the victims considered the offense to be slight and not meriting the bother of complaining to the police and occupying police resources (one of the signs of inflation). In the other cases (47.8%) the victims explained their lack of action on grounds of police inefficiency. (Author abstract)
