This report presents the nationwide volume and characteristics of delinquency and status-offense cases as well as demographic data on offenders processed in juvenile courts for calendar year 1981.
Abstract
Following an executive summary of study findings, a statistical presentation and narrative interpretation of case descriptions encompass delinquency case counts and rates, reason for referral, case characteristics, court intake, detention, disposition, and processing time from referral to disposition. Demographic data on offenders cover age, gender, and race. One appendix describes the data upon which the report is based, the statistical procedures used to generate the national estimates, and some limitations of the results. Other appendixes contain a glossary of terms, tables of study bivariate distributions, an explanation of how to read crosstabulations, and an index to bivariate distributions. Eleven tables and 11 figures are provided in the body of the report.
