Data relevant to faculty readership of private security journals were collected as part of a larger study in the fall of 1982. The study determined that 32 institutions offered a major, minor, or concentration in private security. Of the total faculty of 94 (48 full time), 66 percent responded to a mailed questionnaire. The questionnaire solicited information on respondent demographic characteristics, current academic position and professional activities, prior experience, attitutde toward private security as an academic discipline, journals read, and papers presented and published. Findings show that 'Security Management' is the most read journal among respondents (85.2 percent readership reported), with 'Security World' a close second (82 percent readership). The thesis of the study is that the two journals most widely and frequently read will most influence the future of security education. Tabular data and 11 references are provided.
