This volume contains a report describing efforts to develop school-based programs providing training in mediation, a directory of existing programs in 17 States, and an annotated bibliography.
Abstract
The report describes how these programs were developed through the joint efforts of community mediation programs and schools and how they teach conflict resolution skills in elementary and secondary schools. It also summarizes an August 1984 conference that focused on both practical information and problems and issues related to these programs. The directory presents information on 45 programs. Included for each project are the project title, the sponsoring or supervisory agency, the contact person, the address and telephone number, the project's focus, a general description, a list of services provided, future plans, publications available, and funding sources. Projects providing training, curriculum development, dispute resolution, consultation in program development, and research are included. The 72 references in the bibliography include books, pamphlets, training materials, films, games, and other materials.
