A total of 125 abstracts describe research on adult drug use and abuse, and a series of indexes guide readers to specific research findings presented in the abstracts.
Abstract
The abstracts are arranged under the following topics: characteristics of opiate use and adult users, treatment of drug dependence, relationship between drugs and crime, drug use among women, drug use among ethnic minority adults, and miscellaneous studies of adult drug use. Each abstract contains a citation, summary table (a chart with 10 fields that specify various characteristics of the research: drug, age, sex, ethnicity, etc.), study purpose, definitions, findings, and conclusions. The indexes encompass topic, drug, sample type, sex, age, ethnicity, location, methodology, and instruments. Information for each index term includes the abstract number, document title, and numbers corresponding to findings related to the index term. For a similar volume on drug use and abuse among juveniles, see NCJ 99599.
