Abstract
Primarily tabular data present 10-year (1972-81) trends for Index crimes (murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime). Lifetime murder victimization probabilities are presented, as are data on law enforcement officers killed, assaulted, and injured by weapons. Additional tables elucidate reports and clearances of Index crimes between 1971 and 1980 and the relationship between reported crimes and clearances. Age-specific arrest rates for each Index crime category are presented as 3-year (1978-80) averages. Arrest for drug abuse violations for 1976-80 are presented by type of drug. Arrest trends for total violent and total property crime are provided for 1970-80. Finally, 1971-80 data are presented for average monetary loss per offense and for police officer rate, arrest rate, and number of arrests per officer.
