A historical overview of the OJJDP focuses on major program emphases since the OJJDP's formation in 1974. A description of the 1985 work of the Federal Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is followed by an overview of the Federal Missing Children's Program, with emphasis on the Advisory Board on Missing Children and the board's activities for fiscal year 1985. An inventory of 118 juvenile delinquency programs administered by 10 Federal agencies and departments lists program names, sponsoring agencies, estimated 1985 expenditures, and proposed 1986 budget. Expanded program descriptions are provided for priority areas of the Federal Coordinating Council: drug prevention/treatment, child abuse and exploitation, delinquency prevention, law-related education, and serious juvenile offenders. Also discussed are the characteristics and procedures for constructing Juvenile Delinquency Development Statements, which are annually required from all Federal agencies administering juvenile delinquency programs. The National Institute of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's 1985 annual report is summarized, and recommendations by the OJJDP Administrator concerning the coordination of the Federal juvenile delinquency prevention effort are presented. The appendix contains the Juvenile Justice, Runaway Youth, and Missing Children's Act.
