A binder of selected materials and pamphlets covers topics related to crimes against the elderly and the involvement of the elderly in volunteer criminal justice programs and crime prevention programs.
Abstract
A number of articles examine the incidence of and the types of crimes committted against the elderly. Monographs and articles discuss the general concept of crime prevention and specific crime prevention programs such as neighborhood watch and crime stoppers. Presentations also focus on rural crime against the elderly and measures to counter it. In addition to discussing the plight of the elderly as victims, articles also describe how the elderly can serve as volunteers to provide victim services and in other ways assist in preventing or mitigating the consequences of crime. One article dealing with elderly abuse in the home and in institutions considers the nature of the problem and how it is being addressed. Other topics considered in articles and pamphlets include urban crime against the elderly, third-party civil liability in criminal victimizations, the security survey, and how to spot a con artist. A pamphlet briefly describes slide/tape crime prevention presentations.
