Abstract
The definitions of major crimes and of other common crimes are given, as are national and State crime statistics and trends. Geographic crime patterns for the State and for Denver neighborhoods are also presented. Other statistics cover the timing of crime, the involvement of weapons, fear of crime, victim characteristics, victim-offender relationships, crime reporting, and victim services in Colorado. Additional statistics focus on offender characteristics, the incidence of drug and alcohol abuse among offenders, female offenders, and age patterns of offenders. Information on Colorado's response to crime covers the sequence of events in the criminal justice system, arrests, prosecutorial decisions, pretrial release, the court structure, sentencing, the use of prisons, and recidivism. Information is also given on juvenile offenders, juvenile justice, and criminal justice expenditures. Index.
