NCJ Number
102914
Date Published
1984
Length
36 pages
Annotation
This manual is for persons responsible for organizing and conducting educational programs to teach judges about the rights of crime victims.
Abstract
The manual outlines the course topics for sessions lasting 1 day, 2.5 days, and 1 week. The courses cover the psychological and physical impacts of crime on the victim, including both immediate and enduring effects. They also explain the roles and relationships of all the components of the criminal justice system, the information and services that crime victims need, the need for victim participation in all stages of criminal justice proceedings, and the protection of child and adult victims of sexual assault. Further topics are the judge's role in changing victim treatment in individual jurisdictions and the implementation of victims' rights at the local or State level. The manual also explains how to organize and publicize the course, how to choose and set up the physical site, and the instructional materials needed. Appendixes present an evaluation form, checklists for overall organization, facilities and equipment, and publicity. For the participant's manual, see NCJ 102915.
