Pretrial release and appeal provisions cover constitutional issues, release/detention determinations and conditions, preventive detention, hearings, and sanctions for violations of release conditions. Mental health provisions deal with competency to stand trial, the insanity doctrine and its consequences, and treatment of mentally ill inmates. Among violent offenses dealt with are homicide, racketeering related violence, kidnapping, assault, and firearms offenses.
