Testimony before a December 1985 hearing of a U.S. Senate subcommittee focused on the criminal victimization of senior citizens and on preventive measures.
Abstract
Oral and written statements came from elderly victims of crimes, local and Federal enforcement officials, representatives of advocacy organizations, and the American Association of Retired Persons. Discussions considered the physical and emotional abuse of elderly persons by relatives and caregivers; the psychological, physical, and financial impacts of violent crime; and common fraud schemes perpetrated against the elderly. The American Association of Retired Persons described its criminal justice services programs which instruct police officers on how to respond to the needs of the elderly, teach older persons about crime prevention, and work on legislative issues.
