This book for local officials who are preparing and maintaining court records provides guidance on the features of major components of modern court records management, how they combine to form a system, and methods for assessing current policies and procedures as a prelude to reform.
Abstract
The opening chapter presents tables and narrative descriptions of typical court case processing procedures and related records or files for each of the case-processing phases: case initiation, maintenance of active cases, case disposition, and postadjudication activity. The discussion then turns to management techniques appropriate to each phase in the life cycle of a court case. Forms management, analysis, and design are addressed, followed by guidelines for filing systems and inactive records storage. The latter guidelines focus on filing system considerations, space and equipment needs for active filing systems, filing system supplies, and management of the inactive records storage area. Remaining chapters provide guidelines and information on records retention and destruction, micrographics, and supporting technologies. Appended records forms, 35 tables, 12 figures, and 18-item bibliography.
