This legislative research report surveys 1984 enforcement efforts by the Alaska State Troopers, including a breakdown of personnel used and monies expended in each of several enforcement areas.
Abstract
Trooper time and money spent are broken down by percentage and funds into five areas: traffic and other patrol enforcement, response to requests for assistance, misdemeanor investigations, felony investigations, and report writing/administration/court activities. The largest category was report writing/administration/court at 36 percent, followed by misdemeanor investigations at 25 percent, and traffic enforcement at 21 percent. The report provides detailed information on man-hours and costs for the following: traffic citations and accidents, white-collar and computer crime, violent crime (which includes all offenses categorized by the FBI as Part I crimes), child abuse/missing persons investigations, and narcotics. For example, the violent crime unit expended 8,233 hours on 232 cases in 1984 for an average personnel cost of $1,349 per case. Tables and budget data are provided.
