Abstract
THIS BOOKLET BRIEFLY DESCRIBES ALERT II - A REGIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM DESIGNED AND OPERATED BY THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE OVERALL SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF SUBSYSTEMS THAT CAN BE GROUPED INTO THE THREE AREAS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, ADJUDICATION, AND CORRECTIONS. THE WAYS IN WHICH USERS IN VARIOUS CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES WITHIN THESE THREE AREAS CAN INTERACT WITH THE ALERT II SYSTEM ARE DETAILED. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT SUBSYSTEM PROVIDES USERS WITH INFORMATION PERTAINING TO WANTED PERSONS AND AUTOS, AS WELL AS WARNING INFORMATION ON POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS INDIVIDUALS. COURT PERSONNEL CAN REQUEST INFORMATION WHICH WILL EXPEDITE THE WORKLOAD OF THE COURT AND AID IN DECISION MAKING. THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT ON-LINE SYSTEM FURNISHES CASE STATUS INFORMATION AND ALLOWS FOR ENTRY OF PRE-SENTENCE RECOMMENDATIONS TO JUDGES. THE ALERT II SYSTEM AS DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOKLET IS AVAILABLE TO OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES THAT WANT TO IMPLEMENT AN ENTIRE SYSTEM OR JUST SELECTED SUB-SYSTEMS. THE DOCUMENT CONCLUDES WITH A SAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE AND EXAMPLES OF EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATIONS.
