In the last 10 years, there have been an estimated 30,966 robberies in Wisconsin with a resultant loss of $11,853,946.
Abstract
In 1986, robbery rates were highest in the Southeast part of the State and in Dane County. While robbery offenses have increased nationally and in the State over the past decade, Wisconsin's rate is less than a third of the national rate. Seasonality has only a minor impact on robbery rates in the State; weapons trends have remained relatively stable over the last 5 years, with strong-arm robberies and robberies involving firearms being most common. Over the past decade, clearance rates have dropped, particularly in 1984-1986. In 1986, 70 percent of offenders were black (largely because of statistics for Milwaukee), most were under 21 years old, and the great majority were male. Robberies were most frequent in highly populated areas. Highway robbery was the most frequent type, while commercial, residential, and bank robberies were less frequent. 10 graphs and 2 tables.
