Abstract
As a result of investigations, the FBI has been successful in obtaining indictments and convictions of Irish terrorists. Ongoing investigative activities in this area have concentrated on domestic weapons procurement and illegal transport of weapons to Ireland, fundraising efforts for the support of Irish terrorist elements, and identifying Irish terrorists illegally in the United States. Major Irish groups active domestically include the Provisional Irish Republican Army, the Irish National Liberation Army, and the Irish Northern Aid Committee/Northern Irish Aid. FBI investigations between 1981 and 1986 have been successful in identifying and obtaining conviction of Irish terrorists for such offenses as misuse of visas, fraud, and weapons possession and export.
