Community efforts to eliminate neighborhood 'drug house' operations have included community organizing to increase police effectiveness and foster community support for publicly funded drug detoxification and a drug house ordinance which enables the city to apply sanctions to culpable parties involved in chronic drug house operations. Community efforts to reduce street prostitution in neighborhoods include citizen foot patrols, the documentation of illegal activities, and support for civil actions against facilities used for prostitution. Activities to counter rape have encompassed volunteer networks to circulate suspect composites, citizen education about specific rape crimes and assault prevention techniques, and police-citizen cooperation. Other community crime prevention efforts have focused on disorderly behavior in a neighborhood park, arson, business security, and youth gangs. Much of the effort to prevent various street crimes has been supported by a Federal grant from the Justice Department. Crime prevention program costs for fiscal 1987 are listed.
