This statement explains the policy of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) regarding the use, in drug abuse prevention programs, of the symbol 'McGruff' and the slogan 'Take A Bite Out Of Crime.'
Abstract
The symbol and slogan are both registered trademarks of the Advertising Council. NCPC encourages the use of McGruff by responsible others, provided that advance approval is obtained. Groups may reproduce camera-ready brochures and other print material from NCPC without special permission. However, groups must contact NCPC if they plan to use the symbol or slogan in any other way. McGruff drug abuse prevention materials should be targeted mainly to children aged 6 to 12 or to their caregivers. McGruff should only convey the best substance abuse-prevention knowledge and research available. McGruff should not be shown near to or handling drug paraphernalia or taking any form of drugs. The materials should use both the character and the slogan. Contact person and address from which to obtain more information.
