EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AT ERIE COUNTY PENITENTIARY, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WELFARE OF THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM WAS TO AMELIORATE THE PUNITIVE ATTITUDES OF THE OFFICERS. TWO BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE COURSES WERE OFFERED TO 30 STUDENTS. THIS REPORT EVALUATES THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST PHASE OF THE PROGRAM, AND SETS OUT GOALS FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE PROJECT. ATTACHMENTS TO THE REPORT INCLUDE THE STUDIES DONE ON THE BACKGROUNDS AND ATTITUDES OF KEEPERS AT ERIE COUNTY PENITENTIARY. THE SURVEY WAS AN EFFORT TO DETERMINE ATTITUDES OF KEEPERS BEFORE A TRAINING PROGRAM BECOMES OPERATIONAL.
