Advantages and disadvantages of house arrest and electronic surveillance as alternatives to incarceration are the focus of this selected bibliography.
Abstract
Florida became the first State to enact legislation permitting house arrest to be used as a correctional alternative to incarceration, but a subsequent law passed in Kentucky has tended to be the model. Advantages and disadvantages of house arrest and electronic detention are cited in 67 bibliographic entries for documents published since the 1960's. Entries specifically deal with such topics as home confinement and electronic surveillance, legal issues associated with the use of electronic surveillance in probation, electronic monitoring devices, home detention for juveniles, the use of electronics to observe and control human behavior, home confinement and electronic surveillance in intensive supervision, and electronic rehabilitation for parolees and recidivists.
