Community policing seeks to involve the community in defining and carrying out policing tasks.
Abstract
To properly serve the needs of a community such needs must be known. Needs surveys are a common technique for doing so. General objections to the utility data from a needs survey, it is argued that such surveys are not very useful in defining goals and strategies for the police but do convey political benefits which may help improve police-community relations. 4 notes, 27 references.
